Joe Pegasus draws and designs under the names of My Drawing Board, Joey, and Yman. Most of his sketch work is signed as Joey. The Yman works are signed as both Yman and Joey. The work remaining unsigned has not been categorized by Joe as yet. The Yman works lie in the realm of his X-Line style - doodles. Those signed as Joey are 'artistic-comment' and contemporary.
Joe spent the first 44 years of his life professionally designing and cutting stone as a monument builder and architect. An interest in computers and programming afforded him early exposure to CAD and he developed his own CAD program (OurCAD, 1991.) His interest in the world of computers and electronic communications lead him to be the first in his industry to build on the Net (1981). His earlier years were also devoted to a love of literature. That soon faded as his computing career burgeoned. Both published and unpublished works can be found at the Literature link. Recently, peers have encouraged him to return to writing. Several titles are now in print again under a pen name. The name PEGASUS is a moniker he gained in the bar rooms across Bay Shore, New York. Joe had customized a 1979 work van (150 Econoline Ford) and painted an impressive mural on its entire surface. It's theme was the movie, Clash of the Titans, whose character the horse Pegasus filled an entire side of the van. During the 1970s his interest in computers and networking lead him to form an art studio called ADSTONE Designs. It was for a time the third largest art studio in the memorial trade. While accepting orders for stone designs, Joe and the designers at ADSTONE Designs created a CAD program called OUR CAD which enabled his customers to draw their own designs and cut the stencils needed to produce the finished stone products. But his entry into the Internet and webmastering meant the end of Joe's stone cutting career. He created and built ADSTONE.net, which began as an Internet domain to service the Death Care industry, and at its peak it had more access points than AOL (1994). That move, when those farming the Internet were hard working pioneers, cut his income close to the line of poverty, but, as we all know, a poor artist is a better artist - and that suits Joe just fine. He sold off the residential portions of the Network (SuffolkOnline.com, BabylonTown.com and others) in the late 90s. During this time Joe established MyDrawingBoard. MyDrawingBoard is actually the original ADSTONE Designs Internet presence and the world's oldest and largest archive of commemorative CAD drawings. He remains the webmaster of the site and one of its largest artwork contributors. It is widely accepted that Joe is the most prolific writer on the Net, having authored over 13 gigs of webpages and design work. MyDrawingBoard has archived over 600,000 individual works of art and close to 6,600 of these are Joe's. To make ends meet during these lean years, Joe built a flower shop - Ye Olde Friendly Flower Shoppe and made it a successful and innovated retailer from 1992 through 2007. He and his wife Cathy then turned the shop over to his sister and the couple retired to a farm in South Carolina. All his line work is cartoon by nature. Different series such as X-Line, BayShore Hotel, Fairies, Mermaids and The Undecided display his range of cartoon skills. Often Joe will fall into illustrator mode. Such lapses are acceptable in this gallery. All the works presented in the ART WORK area are scans of number 2 pencil on paper. None are for sale; you may capture them and do with them as you wish as long as it's not for profit. You are permitted to publish them only when editorializing or promoting the work. Enjoy! |
